As a teenager, Dane Stauffer studied at the fabled Minneapolis Children’s Theatre, graduating to (and from) New York University Tisch School of the Arts. He then returned to become one of the Twin Cities most prolific writer/performers, devoted mostly to new works.
In addition to a three year stint improvising and writing Dudley Riggs' Brave New Workshop, he’s contributed humor regularly to KSJN/Public Radio’s The Morning Show, and is a Core Member of the Playwright's Center where he received a Jerome Fellowship and A Dayton/ Hudson Travel Study Grant. Plays of his produced in the Twin Cities are Letters from Hell Honeymoon, and his one man shows Duesenberg ‘55, Playground Battlescars and other jive, and the recent Spice Boy at prestigious venues such as Ruby’s Cabaret, the Jungle Theatre, Illusion Theatre and the Cricket.
He’s been featured with his original material on KTCA/PBS “Technical Difficulties,” and the Emmy award winning “American Scream: Dudley Riggs' first 30 years.”
Several Children’s plays have been produced by Steppingstone theatre for youth, as well. Recent “One Grain of Rice,” “ The Magic Pot,” “Stone Soup Feeds the World,” “Tasty Baby Belly Buttons” and “The Queen Who Wouldn’t Bake Gingerbread”.
With frequent collaborator Beth Gilleland he wrote and performed the two hander “Shedding Light...all over your good black skirt.” which toured from Tampa, Florida, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where they received a Critics Pick from “Three Weeks,” and a prized spot on the BBC’s broadcast “The Pick of the Fringe.”
He recently directed “A View Unassisted,” in the Fritz Blitz Festival of New plays in San Diego CA, which the SD Union-Tribune called “The most rewarding marriage of script, performers and director.” He’s been performing in San Diego’s longest running show ever: “Triple Espresso’ with which he also toured Ireland, Atlanta, and New England, while teaching Yoga, Voice and Improvisation, and recording a CD.
He’s improvised extensively most recently on the Inaugural season of the Disney Magic cruise line, and wherever/whenever he can. He also continues to write, and he teaches Improvisation and Yoga.
