A magical blend of West and East, this production will appeal all who love Hans Christian Andersen, fairy tales, or a mythical China of enchanted gardens and richly costumed courtiers.

Location: The entire play takes place in the Palace of Emperor Peng. It is spacious and wonderful with pillars and pillows and is open to the outside. There are tiny bells and tiny lights hanging everywhere which tinkle softly and twinkle brightly when the breeze blows.
Note: The word(s) in parenthesis behind the character names is the meaning of the Chinese name. And, although we cannot reproduce them, if a cast member wishes to see the Chinese character which represents her/his name, they are listed on the Internet under "Chinese Boy Names" and "Chinese Girl Names." Use it on your costume or sign autographs with it!
Extra: If the birds can be played by Bunrakuh puppeteers, that would be lovely. Otherwise they will be played by single small actors.
Costume Note: Costumes should be enormous, ornate, varied, and VERY colorful. As an economy and a method of creating them fully, "sandwich board" costumes or "paper doll" costumes might be used.
Peng - the Boy Emperor (big bird, roc)
Bao - the Kitchen Maid (treasure)

The Court Ladies:
